Women’s Soccer Drops Double Overtime Heartbreaker to VCU, 1-0

RICHMOND – The La Salle women's soccer team fell 1-0 in double overtime on a VCU goal in the 101st minute on Sunday afternoon at Sports Backers Stadium.

VCU's Amanda Tredway scored her third goal of the season just 54 seconds into double overtime to lift the Rams to the victory.

The Explorers came close to clinching a win several times in the first overtime period. Danielle Marx sent a shot off the crossbar in the 95th minute before Kristin Haugstad slipped a ball past VCU keeper Ryan Jones that was cleared by a Ram defender in the 98th minute.

La Salle put eight of its 12 shots on target against VCU goalies Audrey Sanderson and Jones, who replaced Sanderson to start the second half. La Salle keeper Larisa Zambelli had six saves against 11 shots.

The Explorers took five corner kicks in the match, including a corner in the 95th minute that led to a Marykate Bateman shot attempt that sailed high.

The Explorers will be back in Richmond this week to take on the Richmond Spiders on Thursday night at Robins Stadium.
