RICHMOND, Va. – The La Salle women's soccer team scored twice over the final eight minutes but couldn't find the equalizer in a 4-3 loss to the Richmond Spiders at Robins Stadium on Thursday night.
The Spiders scored three unanswered goals spanning halftime to take a 4-1 lead early in the second half before the Explorers scored in the 83
rd minute and again in the 86
th to cut Richmond's lead to a goal. La Salle, however, couldn't find the equalizer over the final 4:37 to force overtime.
Maci Bower scored her team-leading fourth goal of the season at the 82:57 mark on a helper from
Marykate Bateman.
Deja Davis deposited a
Danielle Marx corner kick less than three minutes later to make it a one-goal game but the Spiders held tough in the closing minutes to seal the win.
After falling behind 1-0 on a Meaghan Carrigan goal in the 9
th minute, Bateman tied the game for La Salle in the 22
nd minute with her second goal of the year on an assist from
Kristin Haugstad.
The Explorers return to McCarthy Stadium to host Saint Louis for Senior Day on Sunday. Senior Day festivities will take place prior to the 1 p.m. kickoff.
