PHILADELPHIA – Deja Davis scored twice and had an assist as the La Salle women's soccer team scored early and often in a 4-0 win over George Mason on Thursday evening at McCarthy Stadium.
Davis got La Salle off to a strong start, tallying her fourth goal of the season in the 13
th minute to put La Salle in front 1-0. After a pass from
Danielle Marx up the sideline, Davis launched the ball from deep over Mason keeper Kirsten Glad and off the far post for the score.
The roles reversed just a few minutes later as Marx scored thanks to a helper from Davis in the 19
th minute. Davis sent a free kick from near midfield off the hands of Glad and Marx headed in the rebound for her third goal of the season.
La Salle's defense was superb again as the Explorers collected their second straight shutout and fifth of the year. George Mason managed just four shots in the game and only one corner kick.
The Explorers added to their lead in the second half, starting with Davis' second score in the 62
nd minute. This time Davis chipped the keeper head on after an assist from
Kristin Haugstad.
Haugstad tallied a score of her own to make it 4-0 La Salle in the 84th minute. The goal was Haugstad's second of the season while Marx tallied her team-leading sixth assist on the play.
The Explorers wrap up the regular season on Sunday afternoon as they visit the Duquesne Dukes at Rooney Field.
