PHILADELPHIA – The La Salle women's soccer dropped a 2-1 decision to the Saint Joseph's Hawks on Sunday afternoon at McCarthy Stadium.
La Salle took a 1-0 lead early in the second half after a scoreless opening 45 minutes.
Paige McDowell scored her first goal of the year in the 55
th minute to put the Explorers in front 1-0.
Hunter Filippo headed a
Danielle Marx corner kick towards the net that McDowell punched in for the score. Filippo now has two helpers this year while Marx tallied her first assist of the season on the play.
SJU's Shannon Mulvey scored in the 77
th minute to tie the game on a cross from Gabrielle Vagnozzi. The Hawks took the lead just over a minute later, with Emily Gingrich scoring at the 77:42 mark after a scrum in the box.
SJU had 13 shots in the game compared to nine for the Explorers while La Salle had a 7-5 advantage in corner kicks.
La Salle is on the road for their next three games, beginning with a Thursday night matchup at Dayton.
