PHILADELPHIA –
Amy Griffin tallied a game-high 20 points while four other Explorers had at least eight points as La Salle defeated the Massachusetts Minutewomen 66-57 on Wednesday night in Tom Gola Arena.
Griffin recorded her eighth game with at least 20 points this season while adding seven rebounds and four assists.
Jasmine Alston tallied her fifth double-double of the year, going for 10 points and 10 rebounds while dishing a game-high six assists.
The Explorers never trailed in the game, although Massachusetts made a run at the lead late in the 4th quarter. The Minutewomen scored four unanswered points down the stretch to pull within four at 59-55 before
Adreana Miller hit a triple with 55 seconds left to put the comeback attempt to bed.
Miller was 3-for-6 from three-point range on the way to 15 points while
Micahya Owens and
Lisa Mintzer each had eight points. Owens and Mintzer also combined for 13 rebounds.
La Salle came out firing, using an 11-0 run early in the 1st quarter to jump out to a 15-4 lead. The Explorers started the 2nd quarter on an 8-0 run and were able to take a 34-27 lead into the break.
La Salle is on the road this weekend as they travel to the Bronx to take on the Fordham Rams on Saturday afternoon. Tipoff from Rose Hill Gymnasium is set for 2 p.m.
