BRONX, N.Y. – The La Salle women's basketball team couldn't hold off a late charge from Fordham as the Explorers dropped a 54-44 decision to the Rams on Saturday afternoon in Rose Hill Gymnasium.
The Rams scored 11 straight points during a 4:02 span in the 3rd quarter to erase a 33-30 La Salle lead, and stretched the advantage into double digits early in the 4th quarter.
The Explorers pushed back with a 9-2 run midway through the 4th quarter, trimming Fordham's lead to 50-42 with 3:35 to go, but weren't able to get any closer in the game's closing minutes.
Micahya Owens was La Salle's leading scorer with 10 points while
Jasmine Alston added six points, 11 rebounds and six assists.
Deja Bullock tied her career-high of eight points, adding four rebounds and an assist to her stat line.
The Explorers were able to hold Fordham scoreless for the final 3:41 of the first half as La Salle erased an early deficit. Owens hit a three-pointer as time expired in the 2nd quarter to cap a 10-0 run for La Salle and send the Explorers into the break with a 27-25 lead.
The Explorers return home next week as they host the Saint Joseph's for a noon tipoff on Wednesday for their annual Breast Cancer Awareness game.
