Explorers Qualify for Four Finals, Libbi and Barnhill Score Points for Men

KINGSTON, R.I.-The La Salle men's track and field team qualified for the finals in four events on day one of the Atlantic 10 Cross Country Championships at Mackal Field House.
 
Sophomore Justin Guerre qualified for two finals himself, finishing fifth in the 60 meter dash with a 6.92 second qualifying time and seventh in the 200 meters with a 22.45 second time.
 
Sophomore Chris Sanders ran the fourth fastest qualifying time in the 800m to advance to tomorrow's finals. Sanders ran a 1:54.29. Sophomore Nicholas Smart ran a 1:55.98 for 10th and classmate Joseph Leconey finished 17th in 1:58.81. Smart was just 1.05 seconds out of the final spot in the finals.
 
Junior Stephen Lewandowski ran a 2:29.62 for the third fastest time in the prelims for the 1k. Lewandowski ran a 2:29.62, just .34 seconds off the top time in the prelims. Junior Dan Rosenblatt (2:33.81, 14th place) and freshman Ben DeVenezia (2:35.01, 16th place) also ran in the event.
 
A pair of Explorers scored in the 5000 meter finals. Seniors Nick Libbi and Ian Barnhill crossed in seventh and eighth place respectively to earn three points for La Salle. Libbi ran a 1:56.54 and Barnhill was close behind in 15:01.61. Sophomore Bradley Heuer also ran in the event crossing in 11th place with a 15:14.83 time.
 
Sophomore Jordan Bryan and freshman Zakiyy Williams both competed in the long jump. Bryan finished in 10th with a leap of 6.47m and Williams in 12th with a 6.22m jump to his name.
 
Freshman Quinn Sullivan ran a 54.11 second time in the 400m prelims for 17th place overall. Sophomore Michael Hagan crossed in 17th place in the 500m prelims with a time of 1:08.78.
 
The men's distance medley relay finished in fifth place with a time of 10:14.18 with the group of sophomores Andrew Gorsuch, Nicholas Smart, freshman Isaiah Akil and senior Brendan Robertson representing the Explorers.
 
La Salle sits in seventh place after day one with seven team points.
