Women’s Basketball Falls at UMass

AMHERST, Mass. – The La Salle women's basketball team dropped an 80-57 decision to the Massachusetts Minutewomen on Saturday afternoon in Atlantic 10 action at the Mullins Center.

Although Jasmine Alston and Amy Griffin both scored in double figures for La Salle, the Explorers couldn't keep pace with the Massachusetts offense in the second half.

After limiting UMass to 30 points in the opening half, the Minutewomen scored 26 in the third quarter and 24 in the 4th to pad their lead down the stretch. Alyssa Lawrence and Cierra Dillard combined for 36 points for the home team, including a game-high 19 from Lawrence.

Alston finished just shy of a double-double for La Salle, scoring 12 points to go with a game-high eight assists. Griffin, meanwhile, drained 15 points in just 24 minutes due to foul trouble. The sophomore ended up fouling out with 3:48 left in the game.

In all, the Explorers were whistled for 29 personal fouls compared to just 19 for Massachusetts. Adreana Miller also fouled out for La Salle with 2:55 remaining after scoring six points.

Amber Wilks played 21 minutes off the bench for the Explorers, nabbing a career-high nine rebounds and netting a career-high six points. The freshman's nine boards were also a team-high.

The Explorers will now get ready for the Atlantic 10 tournament, which begins on Wednesday at the Richmond Coliseum in Richmond, Va.
