JOHNSON CITY, Tenn. – The La Salle baseball team defeated East Tennessee State 9-4 in the second game of a doubleheader on Saturday at Thomas Stadium to earn a series win over the Bucs after falling 6-3 in Saturday's first game.
GAME TWO With the score tied 2-2 after four innings, the Explorers broke the game open with five runs in the 5th inning.
La Salle loaded the bases with one out in the 5th and an
Ethan Springston grounder plated
Travis George to get the scoring started.
Drew Jarmuz was hit by a pitch to force in a run before
Chase Arnold cleared the bases with a double to make it 7-2.
George hit a solo homer in the 6th before Arnold added a sacrifice fly in the 7th to stretch the lead to 9-2. Arnold finished 1-for-2 with four RBI while
Drew Jarmuz scored four runs after going 1-for-1 with an RBI and two walks.
Jordan Meyer (W, 1-1) tossed 3.2 innings in relief of
Jared Mattera, yielding two earned runs on two hits and a walk while striking out two.
GAME ONEETSU scored four runs in the bottom of the 8th to erase a 3-2 La Salle lead and even the series at 1-1.
Jorge Jimenez (L, 1-4) issued two hits and a walk to start the 8th, and was charged for three runs before being lifted in favor of
James Santore.
The Explorers had the winning run at the plate in the 9th, loading the bases with one out before
Kevin McGowan bounced into a double play to end the game.
Joey Ravert had given the Explorers a 3-2 lead in the top of the 8th inning with a solo homer after
Collin McGowan scored on an error to tie the game at 2-2 in the 7th.
McGowan got the Explorers going in the 2nd inning with a sacrifice fly to center to score
Chase Arnold, who reached with a one-out single up the middle. The Bucs responded with two runs against righty
Greg Paprocki in the home half of the 2nd to take a 2-1 lead.
The Explorers host Villanova for the 2015 home opener on Tuesday. First pitch from Hank DeVincent Field is set for 3 p.m.
