Lacrosse Drops One Goal Decision at Sacred Heart

FAIRFIELD, Conn.- Junior Allee Ilgenfritz scored a hat trick, but it wasn't enough as the La Salle women's lacrosse team fell 11-10 at Sacred Heart on Friday afternoon.

Senior Anna Kelly and sophomore Brittany Edwards both added a pair of goals to aid in the offense effort from the Explorers.

La Salle (0-5) jumped out to an early 4-1 lead in the first 11:23 of the game. Edwards scored both of her goals while Ilgenfritz and senior Allie Burnett added one apiece to give La Salle the early lead.

The Pioneers answered with a 5-1 run of their own to take a 6-5 lead with 6:03 left in the half. Ilgenfritz scored her second goal of the game as the sole Explorer goal during that stretch.

Senior Kately Fay scored to close out the half and even things up at 6-6 heading into the half.

The hosts jumped out of the gates at the start of the second half, grabbing four straight goals to open the half giving them a 10-6 lead with 22:49 to go in the contest.

The Explorers grabbed four of the final five goals of the contest to cut the Pioneers lead to just 11-10 with 3:48 left in the contest. Kelly scored a pair while Ilgenftitz and senior Fonte also scored during the 4-1 La Salle run.

Sacred Heart won the draw following after La Salle had cut it to one and was able to maintain possession until Anna Kelly forced a Pioneers turnover with 24 seconds remaining. The Explorers were unable to get off a shot as the hosts pulled out the tight win.

Sophomore Lucy Loughlin made six saves in the contest for the Explorers.

La Salle returns to action on Sunday when they head to Central Connecticut State.
