HIGH POINT, N.C. – The La Salle baseball team dropped a 5-1 decision to the High Point Panthers on Tuesday evening at Williard Stadium.
The Panthers got out to a 1-0 lead in the 1st on a Dominic Fazio RBI single against La Salle starter
Jordan Meyer (L, 0-1). The righty lasted five innings but surrendered five runs (four earned) on four hits and three walks.
High Point added three runs in the 2nd on a hit, two walks and a La Salle fielding error before tacking on a fifth run thanks to a Josh Greene sacrifice fly in the 5th.
The Explorers got on the board in the 6th on a
Connor Hinchliffe RBI grounder but couldn't get anything rolling against High Point's bullpen. Lefty Cooper Jeffers (W, 1-0) allowed just one run in 5.1 innings before Tyler Britton and Joe Goodman combined for 3.2 scoreless innings in relief.
La Salle's bullpen was also effective as
Billy Worswick and
CJ Pruitt combined for 3.0 shutout innings. Worswick worked a scoreless 6th before Pruitt held the Panthers in check over the final two innings.
The Explorers had six hits on the evening, including a 3-for-4 day from
Joey Ravert.
La Salle and High Point play again tomorrow at Williard Stadium. First pitch is set for 4 p.m.
