LEWISBURG, Pa. - The La Salle baseball team captured a 7-5 win over Bucknell with timely hitting and a solid effort from the bullpen on Tuesday afternoon at Eugene B. Depew Field.
Drew Jarmuz and
Joey Ravert had big days for the Explorers, with Jarmuz going 4-for-5 with three RBI and Ravert driving in two runs on a hit and a sacrifice fly.
Ravert plated the game-winning run with a sac fly to center in the 6th to give the Explorers a 6-5 lead. Jarmuz followed with an RBI single for his fourth hit of the day and an insurance run for the Explorers.
Michael Flax (W, 1-0) picked up the win with 2.2 scoreless out of the pen as part of 5.1 shutout innings for La Salle relievers.
Tom Fazzini got the final three outs to collect his eighth save of the season after a perfect 8th from
Jorge Jimenez.Greg Paprock got two outs in relief of starter
Mike Anthony before handing the ball over to Flax.
The Explorers scored three runs in the 3
rd to take a 4-3 lead after back-to-back hits and sac fly.
Kevin McGowan singled to lead off the inning and moved to second on a
Brian Tagoe sac bunt.
McGowan scored on a
Joey Ravert RBI single, Jarmuz tripled to bring in Ravert and later scored on a
Joe Monzo sac fly. Jarmuz also had an RBI single in the 1st.
The Explorers remain on the road this weekend as they play a three-game series at St. Bonaventure.
