La Salle Rallies to Take Series Opener at St. Bonaventure, 6-5

ST. BONAVENTURE, N.Y. – The La Salle baseball team rallied for a 6-4 win in a back-and-forth battle at St. Bonaventure on Friday afternoon thanks to a three-run 8th inning.

Kevin McGowan drove in three runs on two hits, including the go-ahead run with a two-run single in the 8th, while Joey Ravert went 3-for-4 with two RBI. Jared Melone went 2-for-4 with two runs scored and Brian Tagoe also scored a pair of runs.

La Salle scored three runs in the top of the 8th to go up by two after the Bonnies scored twice in the 7th to take a 4-3 lead. Ravert tied the game with a single after Yan Carlo Rivera, Jared Melone and Brian Tagoe all walked to load the bases.

McGowan singled up the middle with two outs to score Melone and Tagoe and put the Explorers in front for good. CJ Pruitt (W, 2-0) got the final two outs in the 7th and one more in the 8th before exiting with men on first and second in favor of Tom Fazzini (S, 9). The senior allowed an inherited runner to score but stranded the go-ahead run on third to nail down a five-out save.

Ravert started the game on the mound before moving to DH after four innings. The senior held the Bonnies scoreless through four frames, allowing just two baserunners via a pair of singles.

Melone led off the game with a triple and scored on a Ravert double to spark a 3-0 run for the Blue and Gold to start the game. McGowan had an RBI single in the 3rd and Ben Faso drove in a run with a single in the 5th.

Due to forecasted rain in the area, the two teams will play a doubleheader on Saturday beginning at 12 p.m.
