La Salle Swept in DH at St. Bonaventure

ST. BONAVENTURE, N.Y. – After winning the series opener on Friday afternoon, the La Salle baseball team fell in both games of a doubleheader with St. Bonaventure on Saturday afternoon at Fred Handler Park. The Bonnies took the opener 3-1 before stealing the nightcap 6-3 in 12 innings.

Kevin McGowan and Jared Melone both had four hits on the afternoon, including a pair of triples for McGowan, while Connor Hinchliffe drove in three runs. The Explorers got quality starts from both Luke Reilly and Jordan Meyer.

GAME ONE
Reilly limited the Bonnies to one run on six hits over six innings while striking out six. The lefty exited with the game knotted at 1-1.

SBU scored twice in the 7th against Billy Worswick (L, 1-3) and La Salle went down in order in their 8th and 9th.

After the Bonnies took a 1-0 lead in the 1st, Connor Hinchliffe tied it in the 4th with an RBI grounder.

GAME TWO
Hinchliffe had an RBI single in the top of the 12th to give La Salle a 3-2 lead before the Bonnies loaded the bases against Tom Fazzini (L, 0-4) and Thad Johnson connected on a walk-off grand slam.

Meyer spotted the Bonnies a pair of runs in the 1st inning but didn't allow a run after that, finally exiting with two outs in the 9th before Greg Krug induced an inning-ending fly ball with the winning run on second. Meyer scattered six hits and three walks over 8.2 innings while fanning three.

Down 2-0 early, Brian Tagoe launched a solo homer in the 4th and Hinchliffe lifted a sacrifice fly to score McGowan to tie the game in the 6th.
