DOVER, Del. – The La Salle baseball team got out to an early lead and kept Delaware State at bay in a 4-2 win over the Hornets on Tuesday afternoon at Soldier Field.
La Salle added an insurance run in the top of the 9
th to go in front 4-2 on a
Jared Melone sacrifice bunt before
Tom Fazzini pitched a scoreless 9
th to earn his sixth save. Sophomore
Greg Paprocki (W, 1-1) earned his first career victory, holding the Hornets to two runs (one earned) over 4.2 innings.
Justin Jacko got the Explorers on the board in the 3
rd with an RBI single to score
Joey Ravert. The Explorers pushed the lead to 3-0 with a pair of runs in the 4
th inning.
Brian Tagoe singled with one out in the 4
th and later scored on a Delaware State throwing error to make it 2-0.
Derek Prucnal, who reached on the error, stole second and scored on an RBI single from Melone to give La Salle a three-run lead.
The Explorers host the Fordham Rams for a three-game Atlantic 10 series this weekend at Hank DeVincent Field. First pitch for Friday's opener is slated for 3 p.m.
