PHILADELPHIA – The La Salle Explorers scored nine runs over the first three innings on the way to a 16-4 win over the Fordham Rams on Friday afternoon in Atlantic 10 action.
Joey Ravert finished 4-for-6 with five RBI while
Kevin McGowan went 2-for-6 with three runs driven in.
Collin McGowan and
Brett Simon each had three hits and plated a pair of runs for the Blue and Gold.
Ravert (W, 3-3) also started the game on the mound for the Explorers, limiting the Rams to two runs over six innings. The righty struck out eight to tie his season-high.
The Explorers used a five-run 1st inning to gain the early momentum against Fordham's Kirk Haynes Jr (L, 3-1).
Derek Prucnal plated
Collin McGowan with an RBI grounder before Ravert drilled a two-run homer to right to make it 3-0.
Brett Simon and
Brian Tagoe added RBI singles to cap the 1st before the Rams scored twice in the 2nd to cut the lead to 5-2. The Explorers quickly got the runs back in the home half of the 2nd thanks to
Chase Arnold's RBI double and a
Justin Jacko sac fly.
Kevin McGowan doubled in two runs in the 3rd to make it 9-2 and push the game out of Fordham's reach. La Salle ended up with a season-high 19 hits, and the 14 runs scored were also a season-best.
Due to impending weather, Saturday's game has been postponed. The two teams will play a doubleheader on Sunday beginning at 12 p.m.
