FAIRFAX, Va. – The La Salle baseball team couldn't get going offensively despite a strong start from
Jordan Meyer in a 2-0 loss to George Mason in the series opener at Spuhler Field on Friday afternoon.
Meyer tallied a season-high seven strikeouts in the complete-game effort, shutting out the Patriots until the 4
th inning. The righty's final line showed just five hits and one walk over eight frames.
The Patriots used an RBI double from Ryan Tassone to take a 1-0 lead in the 4
th inning and tacked on another run in the 6
th on a Greg Popatak RBI double.
Tyler Zombro (W, 4-8) tossed eight shutout innings for Mason, yielding just five hits and a walk while fanning six. Zach Mort picked up his sixth save of the year while pitching around a
Brian Tagoe walk in the 9
th.
Game two of the series is set for 2 p.m. on Saturday afternoon. Lefty
Luke Reilly (1-4, 3.23 ERA) will get the start for the Explorers.
