FAIRFAX, Va. – The La Salle baseball team scored three runs in the 7
th inning and used three innings of scoreless relief to earn a 5-4 win over George Mason at Spuhler Field on Saturday afternoon.
With La Salle trailing 4-2 in the 7
th,
Joey Ravert was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded to force in a run before
Connor Hinchliffe laced a two-run single to left put La Salle in front for the first time in the game.
Ben Faso had a two-run single with two outs in the 6
th to make it a two-run game after the Explorers fell behind 4-0 early.
Greg Krug then came in for a 1-2-3 7
th inning and got the first two outs in the 8
th before
Billy Worswick struck out Ryan Tassone to end the inning.
CJ Pruitt faced the minimum in the 9
th to earn his first career save.
Luke Reilly (W, 2-4) made the start for La Salle, scattering 11 hits over six innings without issuing a free pass and striking out five Patriots. The lefty was charged with four runs in the effort, although only three were earned.
La Salle had seven hits on the afternoon, each picked up by a different Explorer.
The rubber match is slated for Sunday afternoon at 1 p.m. from Spuhler Field.
