NEWPORT NEWS, Va.- A trio of Explorers earned Atlantic 10 women's lacrosse honors as announced by the conference on Wednesday. Junior Allee Ilgenfritz has been named Second Team All-Atlantic 10 and seniors Anna Kelly and Kerry Newby were named to the All-Academic Team.
 
Ilgenfritz led the team with 13 assists on the year and ranked second in goals with 29 and points with 42 from the midfield. This is the second time that Ilgenfritz has earned A-10 honors after being named to the All-Rookie team in 2014 as a freshman.
 
"The competition was extremely tough amongst the midfield and attack this season; so it's exciting to see Allee receive this recognition," said head coach Candace Taglianetti Bossell. "We always knew that she was one of the top performers in the A-10 and I'm thrilled that she has earned this honor."
 
The 13 assists and 42 points are both career highs for Ilgenfritz and she was one goal short of tying her 30 goal mark from a season ago. Ilgenfrtiz shot .349 on the season which is a career high and scooped up 13 ground balls, seven draw controls, and caused seven turnovers which are all career highs for the junior.
 
Heading into her senior season Ilgenfritz is in position to enter several top 10 lists in program history next season. She currently has 25 career assists just three short of tenth place on the all-time list. She also is 20 points shy of reaching 102 to tie for tenth place and 23 goals short of 100 which would enter her into the top ten.
 
For both Kelly and Newby this is the first All-Academic Team honors. Kelly carries a 3.85 GPA as a nursing major while Newby holds a 3.83 GPA as a finance major.
 
Kelly is tied for tenth in school history with 63 career games played and is also tenth in draw controls at 58 over her career. She tallied a career-high eight goals and three assists this season while shooting .533 on the season. Kelly has appeared on the A-10 Commissioner's Honor Roll all seven semesters she has been on campus.
 
Newby is a four time member of the A-10 Commissioner's Honor Roll who scored a goal and assisted on two other this season from the midfield. She also scooped up 28 ground balls and 15 draw controls while forcing 13 turnovers.
