FAIRFAX, Va.-The La Salle men's track and field team finished tied for third place at the 2016 Atlantic 10 Outdoor Track and Field Championships. The Explorers grabbed four medals on the second day of the championship and finished with 67 team points over the two days.

The third place finish for was the highest for the Explorers since they finished in third place in 2008.

The Explorers went one-two in the 800m finals on Sunday as junior
Chris Sanders defended his title for the third straight year with a time of 1:49.86 while freshman
Benjamin De Venezia finished second in 1:51.84. Sophomore Nicholas Smart grabbed eighth place with a time of 2:00.87. In total the Explorers took 16 team points from the event.

The strong 800m group returned as La Salle defended its title in the 4x800m relay for the seventh straight season. The group of De Venezia, Smart, junior
Stephen Lewandowski and Sanders ran a 7:33.08 combined time to top the field by 3.64 seconds.
DeVenezia was named the Atlantic 10 Rookie of the Year.Â

Freshman
Zakiyy Williams grabbed bronze in the triple jump thanks to a distance of 14.59m in the event. The finish gave La Salle six points towards the team score.

Sophomore
Justin Guerre grabbed points in both the 100m and 200m finals on Sunday. He crossed in fifth place in the 100m with a time of 10.85 seconds and fifth in the 200 with a 21.79 second time. The pair of finishes earned him eight total points towards the team score.

Junior
Stephen Lewandowski grabbed fourth place and five team points in the 1500m race. He turned in a time of 3:54.87 in the race. Sophomore
Bradley Heuer finished in 16
th in a time of 3:59.80 and sophomore
Andrew Gorsuch finished in 4:11.48 for 22
nd place.

The Explorers had a pair of scorers in the 5000m race on Sunday. Sophomores
Chris Berry and
Fran Ferruzzi finished in sixth and seventh respectively with times of 14:54.43 and 14:58.86. The finishes gave La Salle five points in the event.

Sophomore
Kenneth Worthington grabbed four team points as he tied for fourth place in the high jump with a height of 1.97m.

The 4x400m relay team finished in tenth as the group of sophomore
Michael Hagan, sophomore
Joseph Leconey, DeVenezia, and Smart ran a total time of 3:30.45.
