WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. – The La Salle women's soccer team dropped a 6-1 decision to the NC State Wolfpack in the 2016 season opener on Friday evening at Spry Stadium.

Freshman Emily Wilkinson scored her first career goal in the 90^th minute, deflecting a Deja Davis free kick into the back of the net with 58 seconds left in the game. The Explorers had six shots in the second half after a slow first half but couldn't overcome NC State's early lead.

The Wolfpack got things going with a Jackie Stengel goal in the 14^th minute. La Salle kept the game tight for the next 25 minutes before Rachel Cox made it 2-0 in the 39^th minute.

NC State came out shooting after the break, with Stengel scoring 14 seconds into the half and adding a third goal in the 47^th minute. Cox added another goal in the 84^th minute before Michaella van Maanen struck with two seconds left in regulation.

The Explorers will take on the Wake Forest Demon Deacons on Sunday afternoon at Spry Stadium at 1:30 PM.
