WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. – The La Salle women's soccer team lost a hard-fought match to Wake Forest 1-0 on Sunday afternoon at Spry Stadium.
Wake Forest's Maddie Huster scored the game-winning goal in the 31st minute off a Kate Ravenna cross to put the Demon Deacons in front. Wake Forest had 15 shots on the afternoon, including seven on goal.
La Salle goalkeeper
Larisa Zambelli had six saves in the game. Wake Forest head coach Tony Da Luz credited the Explorers defense for disrupting the Demon Deacons in their offensive third.
"La Salle had a good plan today," Da Luz said. "They defended pretty deep and made it hard for us to break them down."
The Blue and Gold fired seven shots on the afternoon and landed three on target.
Jess Shanahan led the squad with three shots while
Marykate Bateman put two on goal.
The Explorers return to action on Thursday as they visit crosstown rival Drexel at 7 p.m. La Salle's home opener is Sunday at 1 p.m. against Big 5 foe Temple.
