Villanova Edges La Salle in Double Overtime, 3-2

PHILADELPHIA – The La Salle women's soccer team took a 2-0 lead in the opening half before Villanova tied the game with two goals after the break and scored the golden goal in the 102nd minute to steal a 3-2 win on Thursday night at McCarthy Stadium.

Villanova's Kristen Barbour scored all three goals for the Wildcats, including the game-winner at the 8:43 mark in the second overtime. Barbour scored Nova's first goal in the 72nd minute and tied the game with 1:35 remaining in regulation to force overtime.

The Explorers took a 1-0 lead on Jess Shanahan's first career goal in the 31st minute. The freshman corralled a loose ball after a Villanova defender collided with goalkeeper Emily Harris and sent it in.

La Salle made it 2-0 in the 42nd minute thanks to a goal from Clarissa Kirsch-Downs. Hunter Filippo threaded a pass up the far sideline that Kirsch-Downs dribbled into the box and fired past Harris inside the near post.

La Salle wraps up nonconference play on Sunday afternoon as they visit the St. John's Red Storm at Belson Field at 1 p.m.
