QUEENS, N.Y. – The La Salle women's soccer team battled St. John's in a scoreless duel for most of the game until the Red Storm tallied a goal in the 82
nd minute to steal a 1-0 win at Belson Stadium on Sunday afternoon.
Shea Connors scored the deciding goal with just 8:57 left in regulation, taking a pass from Lucy Whipp up the left side before tucking it inside the far post for the game-winner.
La Salle put five shots on goal against Red Storm keeper Diana Poulin. The Explorers fired at total of 10 shots in the game, including seven in the second half.
"I think La Salle is a very good team," said St. John's head coach Ian Stone. "They're going to be right at the top of their conference this season because they just fight right until the end."
Kristin Haugstad had a pair of shots on goal while
Bria Bittiger led the team with three shots. La Salle keeper
Larisa Zambelli had four saves on the afternoon against 17 shots.
The Explorers don't play for nearly two weeks until they open A-10 play at home against Massachusetts on September 29.
