PHILADELPHIA – Maci Bower scored on a breakaway in the 104^th minute to seal a 1-0 La Salle win over Massachusetts in the A-10 opener on a rainy Thursday night at McCarthy Stadium.
 
"Kristin Haugstad wins a header off a goal kick, Deja Davis helps it on through and Maci did a great job of holding the defender off and turning," said head coach Paul Royal. "It was a clinical finish, to slot that home was huge for this team."
 
The goal was Bower's third of the season and the third helper for Davis. La Salle outshot the Minutewomen 17-7 on the night, and placed nine shots on goal against UMass keeper Cassidy Babin.
 
The Explorers allowed just seven shots in the contest on the way to their second shutout of the year, and only four on goal against Larisa Zambelli. La Salle controlled corner kicks 7-1.
 
"We said at the beginning of the second overtime that this was a momentum changer for this season," added Royal. "The girls believed, and this is exactly what we needed."
 
The Explorers are on the road on Sunday as they visit the Davidson Wildcats at Alumni Stadium. Kickoff is set for 1 p.m.
