PHILADELPHIA – The La Salle women's soccer team scored twice in the second half to rally from a two-goal deficit but Northeastern scored in the 84
th minute to steal a 4-3 win at McCarthy Stadium on Friday evening.
Northeastern's Hannah Rosenblatt corralled the ball from a scramble in front of the box following a corner kick and punched it inside the far post for the game-winner. The Huskies goal broke a 3-3 tie after the Explorers rallied from a 3-1 halftime deficit.
Danielle Marx cut the Northeastern lead to 3-2 with a goal in the 54
th minute, striking a pass from
Deja Davis in mid-air and sending it into the upper 90.
Davis tied the game in the 66
th minute on an assist from
Marykate Bateman, drilling the ball over the reach of Northeastern keeper Nathalie Nidetch. The ball nicked the crossbar and deflected into the net for Davis' second goal of the year.
Maci Bower scored her second goal of the season to give La Salle a 1-0 lead in the 26
th minute. The ball was played up the sideline by
Clarissa Kirsch-Downs to
Kristin Haugstad, who sent the ball into the box to Bower.
The Huskies scored three unanswered goals before halftime to take a two-goal lead into the break. Both teams placed six shots on goal in the game although NU outshot La Salle 17-11.
The Explorers are back in action on Sunday, September 11 as they visit defending national champion Penn State.
