La Salle Travels to Providence for Friar Classic

PHILADELPHIA- The La Salle volleyball team will travel to Providence College this weekend to compete in the Friar Classic this weekend. The Explorers will face Quinnipiac for the second time this season, as well as Providence and Holy Cross.
The Explorers open play against Quinnipiac at 5:00 PM on Friday, then follow up with a pair of matches on Saturday against Providence at 11:00 AM and Holy Cross at 3:30 PM.

Scouting the Explorers…

- The Blue and Gold is 7-1 on the season, the best record to open the season in program history. They are tied for most wins in the NCAA.
- The team took second at the Jack Kaiser Classic last weekend in Queens, N.Y., besting Binghamton and Niagara. Jensen Sharrits and Devin Corah were named to the All-Tournament team.
-Corah was named A-10 Rookie of the Week, after posting 20 kills over Niagara and 42 for the entire weekend. Bryanna Davis collected 15 kills and Jenny Edwards collected nine over the Bearcats.
- Senior Ashley Felton posted seven blocks over Binghamton, while Sharrits recorded 21 digs in the match. Felton leads the A-10 in hitting percentage, with a .518 average, while Katie Edgington ranks third, averaging .400.
-Sharrits ranks first in the A-10 in digs and seventh in the NCAA, averaging 5.73 digs per set. Corah ranks tenth in the NCAA in aces, with .58 per set.
-La Salle leads the Atlantic 10 in hitting percentage, with .287, and are second in assists, averaging 13.27, kills, averaging 14.12, and aces, with a 1.85.
 
Scouting the Bobcats…

-Quinnipiac is 6-4 this season and head Coach Kris Czaplinksi is in his fourth season at the helm.
-Middle hitter Allison Leigh recorded a double double-against Saint Francis Brooklyn with 14 kills and ten blocks last weekend.
-Natalie Alechko tallied nine digs a loss against Fordham, while Leigh posted six for the Bobcats.
-Maria Pansari posted 52 assists against Farleigh Dickinson, helping the Bobcats capture the win 3-1.

- The Friars are 7-1 on the season, falling only to San Jose State at the San Jose Tournament in California. Head Coach Margot Royer-Johnson is in her sixteenth season at Providence.
-Providence went undefeated in the Lehigh/Lafayette tournament last weekend, with Micelle Cruz recording 15 digs over Lafayette and 15 over Lehigh.
- Sophomore Allison Impellizeri recorded 39 kills over the weekend, averaging 3.00 per set.
-The Friars won over Brown in five sets, with Jenae Alderson and Kayla Fitzgerald posting 13 kills apiece.
 
Scouting the Crusaders…

-The Crusaders have recorded a 2-4 season so far. Head coach Melissa Batie-Smooseis  in her tenth year at the helm.
-Mandy Sifferlen posted 32 kills and 13 digs at the Crusader Classic last weekend, where Holy Cross fell to UMass and Lowell, but bested Brown.
-Junior M.C Magner posted 16 digs over Brown in the 3-2 contest last weekend.
-Freshman setter Lizzie Webb posted her third double-double over Brown with 42 assists and 11 digs.
