PHILADELPHIA – Jasmine Alston recorded the 234
th steal of her career in a 75-55 loss to Saint Joseph's on Saturday afternoon to become the all-time career steals leader in La Salle women's basketball program history.
Alston picked up the steal midway through the 1st quarter to pass Jennifer McGowan (233 steals, 1988-93) as the all-time leader at La Salle. The senior finished with six points, six rebounds, two assists and two steals.
The Explorers led early in the 1
st quarter but the Hawks outscored La Salle 23-11 in the 2nd quarter to take a 38-25 lead into the break. La Salle narrowed the deficit to five points early in the 4
th quarter with an 11-4 run but Saint Joseph's was able to push the lead back to double digits as the final quarter went on.
Amy Griffin paced the Explorers in scoring with 16 points while
Micahya Owens added 14 off the bench.
Lisa Mintzer added four points, six rebounds and tied a career high with four blocks while
Sofilia Ngwafang tied her season-high with eight points.
The Explorers are on the road for their next two games, starting with a midweek visit to the Richmond Spiders on Wednesday. Tip off from the Robins Center is set for 7 PM.
