RICHMOND, Va. – The La Salle women's basketball team executed down the stretch to earn a 63-58 win over the Richmond Spiders on Wednesday night at the Robins Center.
The Explorers closed the game on a 6-2 run over the final 2:41 of game clock, including a pair of jumpers from
Amy Griffin in the final 1:21 and two good fouls shots from
Adreana Miller with 17.4 seconds left.
Ashanti Freeland stole the inbounds pass following Miller's free throws to prevent the Spiders from making it a one-possession game. Freeland finished with eight points and 10 rebounds, including four points and four rebounds in the 4
th quarter.
Jasmine Alston finished with a 15-point, 13-rebound double-double after going for 11 points and eight rebounds in the opening half. Griffin posted 13 of her team-high 22 points in the second half, and also secured seven rebounds.
La Salle controlled the glass, outrebounding the Spiders 44-40 in the game. The Explorers shot 47.5% (28-for-59) while limiting Richmond to a 30.0 % (21-for-70) shooting performance from the floor.
Miller overcame a slow start to finish with 10 points, going 3-for-6 from the field in the second half on the way to eight points after the break.
La Salle continues south for a Saturday matchup against Davidson. Tip from Belk Arena is set for 2 p.m.
