PHILADELPHIA –
Amy Griffin hit the game-winning jumper with .7 seconds left to lift the La Salle women's basketball team to its fourth straight win, a 59-57 defeat of George Mason on Saturday at Tom Gola Arena.
George Mason's Kara Wright hit a jumper with 23.2 remaining in the game to tie the score at 57-57 before
Jasmine Alston found Griffin just below the elbow for a turnaround jumper to win the game. George Mason heaved a shot from the backcourt as time expired that was off the mark.
Griffin finished with a team-high 17 points and nine rebounds while Alston filled the stat sheet with seven points, 12 rebounds and nine assists.
Adreana Miller also finished in double figures with 10 points while
Micahya Owens added nine.
Mason led briefly in the 1
st quarter but the Explorers never trailed following the game's opening minutes, and led by as many as 12 points during the second half. George Mason made a 16-4 run midway through the 4
th quarter to tie the game at 55-55 with 1:39 to play.
Ashanti Freeland chipped in six points and two rebounds off the bench while
Sofilia Ngwafang and
Anemone Scheel both added five points. Ngwafang also pulled down four rebounds.
La Salle takes a midweek road trip to complete the season-series with Rhode Island on Wednesday. Tipoff from the Ryan Center is set for 7 p.m.
