PHILADELPHIA – La Salle Junior
Amy Griffin became the 25
th player in program history to score 1,000 career points on a jumper in the 2
nd quarter of a 76-68 loss to Duquesne on Thursday night at Tom Gola Arena.
Griffin got off to a strong start, scoring 12 of her 16 points in the first half. A jumper with 6:56 to go in the 2
nd quarter after a
Jasmine Alston offensive rebound pushed Griffin over the 1,000-point plateau.
La Salle used a 7-2 run late in the 2
nd quarter to take a 32-30 lead into the half before Duquesne retook the lead midway through the 3
rd quarter. The Dukes led by as many as 11 in the 4
th quarter before the Explorers used a 15-7 run to make it a three-point game with 1:02 to play.
Jasmine Alston hit a pair of foul shots to cap the rally and make it a 71-68 game, but Duquesne's Kadri-Ann Lass knocked down a three with 34 seconds left to stretch the lead to six. The Explorers couldn't score on their ensuing possession and were forced to foul, leading to a pair of made free throws for Duquense that pushed the game out of La Salle's reach.
Adreana Miller led the Explorers with 17 points, going 4-for-9 from three-point range and 5-for-6 from the foul line. Alston filled the stat sheet with 12 points, a game-high nine assists and a game-high seven rebounds.
Five Dukes finished in double figures, paced by Chassidy Omogrosso's game-high 18 points. Amadea Szamosi added 14, Julijana Vojinovic had 13 and Nina Aho and Lass both went for 11.
The Explorers continue their four-game home stand on Monday night when they host the Rhode Island Rams. The contest will be televised live on CBS Sports Network, with tipoff scheduled for 7 p.m.
