Box Score RICHMOND, Va.- The La Salle field hockey team fell in a high-scoring battle against Richmond on Friday, Oct. 20. Two Explorers scored in the 4-3 battle, with four of the game's total goals coming in the first half.
Richmond put themselves up on the board first, netting a pair of goals five and eight minutes into the first half of play. The Spiders held La Salle down for another scoreless 20 minutes of play before
Mackenzie Karcher accepted a pass from
Eileen Dzwill to net La Salle's first goal of the game.
With Karcher's eighth goal of the season to push La Salle to a 2-1 score, the team fired at Richmond's goal again just six minutes later to net a second goal.Â
Dzwill again sent a pass to
Jess Hoffman for the Explorers to send the ball beyond Spiders goalkeeper Felicitas Heinzel's outstretched pads to equalize the score at 2-2.
Following the intermission, the Spiders put themselves up again with a goal just under three minutes into the second half of play for a 3-2 score.
La Salle again fired back to equalize the score at 3-3 with another goal from Karcher with just 13 minutes remaining after she took a pass from
April Stein.
Despite the back-and-forth, Richmond's Kasey Gilbride took one final shot to secure a 4-3 lead with just under three minutes.Â
In goal,
Emma Provost made 10 saves in her 70 minutes in goal.
La Salle continues Atlantic 10 play on Sunday, when the team takes on VCU at 1:00 in Richmond, Va.
