NEW LONDON, Conn. - La Salle completed the weekend and the regular season with another nailbiter, losing to the host Connecticut College, 12-11. Although a game-winner was scored with 14 seconds left on Saturday, this time the Explorers found themselves coming up short on a potentially game-tying shot with 10 seconds left.
"The team has improved tremendously this year with a 4-3 record in league play," head coach
Paul Macht said following the game. "We're looking forward to a successful championship weekend coming up."
Daniel Domotor helped the Explorers gain a 7-5 advantage at halftime by sending four balls into the back of the net. He also contributed four steals and a blocked shot on defense.
Jeff Brady continued to be an offensive force as he scored three goals, including one quick outside shot that tied the game at 11 apiece with under two minutes to play.
Ash Lyne sent a backhand shot into the net to go along with one assist.
Derek DeFusco scored a goal and collected three steals.
In net,
Owain Llewellyn blocked 10 shots and prevented his second penalty shot of the weekend.
"This game showed our team chemistry is improving," said assistant coach Andrew Nyce. "Although it doesn't show up on the stat sheet, players like Pat Dougherty and
Cole Strohson played very well and did the little things like driving hard and getting great position in front the goal."
The Explorers will now wait to see how things play out in the Mid Atlantic Water Polo Conference as their positioning in the postseason tournament is contingent on how other teams finish their seasons. Tournament play begins on November 4 in Erie.
