PHILADELPHIA - The La Salle men's soccer team fell to St. Bonaventure at home on Saturday night, 2-1, in double overtime. Despite the loss, the game was still an exciting one to watch as the Explorers tied the game with just under four minutes to play to send it to overtime.
Joe Hansen connected on a sprawling dive in front off of a corner by
Matt Robinson to scored with 3:34 left in regulation to send the game to overtime. La Salle had been trailing 1-0 since earlier in the half. The Explorers had been pounding the Bonnies with shots, out-shooting them 6-2 in the second half alone. One shot by
Billy McCarthy clanked off the post.
Hayden Criollo and
Johnny Ciarlante also had some close calls in front of the net before Hansen finally connected.
Hansen's goal gave the Explorers some momentum that they took into the overtime but were unable to hold off the Bonnies. St. Bonaventure's Jacob Dyck beat Blue and Gold keeper
Mark Tobin on the ground from the left side with about a minute left in double overtime.
Prior to the game, the members of the La Salle senior class were honored for Senior Night.
The Explorers' regular season concludes at Davidson on November 1 at 7:00.
