PHILADELPHIA - The La Salle men's soccer team (4-7-1, 0-3 A-10) was defeated by Rhode Island (7-2-2, 3-0 A-10) in double overtime by Rhode Island on Saturday night, 1-0.
The Explorers came out swinging, out-shooting Rhode Island 10-4 in the first half. The offensive outpour didn't let up as they continued to out-shoot the Rams for the remainder of the game and ultimately recorded 22 shots to Rhode Island's 12.
The Explorers had some scoring opportunities, including a header by
Johnny Ciarlante that sailed just over the crossbar late in the second half and also a great look by
Matt Robinson that was blocked away just minutes later.
Four different Explorers had two shots on goal including Ciarlante and Robinson as well as
Mike Liska and, off the bench,
Sixtus Akinlosotu.
La Salle played brilliant defense, led by goalkeeper
Mark Tobin's seven saves.
The Explorers play again at home on Wednesday at 7:00 PM when they host George Washington.
