EASTON, Pa. – The La Salle women's basketball team (1-0) cruised to a 74-47 win over the Lafayette Leopards (0-1) to open the season on Friday night at the Kirby Sports Center.
The Explorers had three scorers finish in double figures, paced by 30 points from Amy Griffin. Shaquana Edwards dropped 17 points in her collegiate debut while Shalina Miller posted a career-high 16 points.
The Explorers blew the game open after the half, outscoring Lafayette 29-11 during the 3
rd quarter. La Salle used a 17-3 run out of halftime to put the game out of reach for the Leopards.
Griffin finished 10-for-18 from the floor and pulled down a team-high eight rebounds while Edwards added seven assists and five rebounds to her line. Miller grabbed six rebounds and finished an efficient 7-for-12 from the field.
La Salle never trailed in the contest after jumping out a 5-0 lead to start the game. The Explorers used a 10-2 run to end the 1st quarter to take a 20-7 lead after 10 minutes of action.
Although Lafayette cut the lead to seven points late in the 2
nd quarter, the Explorers rallied to take a 10-point lead into the break and held a double-digit advantage for the duration.
La Salle shot 45.3% (29-for-64) from the field while limiting the Leopards to a 32.1% clip (18-for-56). The Explorers also controlled a 49-32 advantage on the glass.
La Salle returns to action on Monday evening as they visit the American Eagles for a 7 p.m. tip from Bender Arena.
