La Salle Tripped Up at American

WASHINGTON – The La Salle women's basketball team (1-1) dropped a 66-48 decision to the American Eagles (2-0) on Monday night at Bender Arena.

Adreana Miller led all scorers with 20 points, going an efficient 7-for-11 from the field and 5-for-6 from the foul line. Amy Griffin chipped in 10 points, but no other Explorer finished with more than seven.

The teams were locked in a seesaw battle until late in the 3rd quarter when the Eagles used a 9-2 run over the final 2:30 of the quarter to take a 47-42 lead into the 4th. AU continued to pull away early in the final quarter before pushing the lead into double digits for good with 5:41 to play.

The Explorers were 18-for-24 (75%) from the foul line but shot just 28 percent (14-for-50) from the field. Jeryn Reese grabbed a game-high seven rebounds in 21 minutes off the bench while Ashanti Freeland pulled down five boards.

Shaquana Edwards and Deja King had four rebounds apiece to go with seven and six points, respectively. King scored all of her points on free throws, going 6-for-8 from the foul line.
