PHILADELPHIA – The La Salle women's basketball team (1-2) fell 79-54 to the Drexel Dragons (1-1) on Thursday evening at the Daskalakis Center.
Shalina Miller scored a team-high 12 points while Shaquana Edwards added 11. Amy Griffin grabbed a game-high eight rebounds and chipped in nine points.
The two teams played evenly for the first 15 minutes of action, with a Shaquana Edwards three tying the game at 18-18 with 5:56 left in the opening half. The Dragons then closed the quarter by outscoring La Salle 19-2 to take a 37-20 lead into the break.
The Explorers opened the 3
rd quarter on a 7-2 run but Drexel responded with an 8-2 run to push the lead to 18. The Explorers couldn't get closer than 15 points over the final 15:14 of action.
The Dragons had five scorers finish in double figures, paced by 14 points from Ana Ferariu. Sara Woods had 13 points, Hannah Nihill added 12 and Aubree Brown and Bailey Greenberg both had 11.
La Salle shot 46.7 percent (21-for-45) and controlled the battle on the glass 34-26 but were undone by 28 turnovers.
The Explorers host Temple for their home opener on Wednesday afternoon. Tipoff from Tom Gola Arena is set for 1 p.m.
