ERIE - The La Salle men's water polo team defeated Connecticut College, 13-11, in the first round of the Mid Atlantic Water Polo Conference playoffs on Saturday morning for its first postseason victory in the program's two-year history. Round two quickly followed as the Explorers fought hard and were downed by top-seeded Gannon University, 12-9. Ultimately, the team finished fourth place in the conference tournament.
The win over the Camels served as a rematch for the Explorers, who lost the regular season finale by one goal. Daniel Domotar led in goals with five to go along with two assists and two steals.
Derek DeFusco had two goals and two steals.
Jeff Brady also scored twice.
Luke Waechter had a goal and four assists. Pat Dougherty had a goal and four kickouts drawn.
Cole Strohson had one goal and four steals. In net,
Owain Llewellyn made 13 saves.
In game two, the Explorers gave the conference's top team a run, falling by just three goals.
Ash Lyne scored once, a left-handed backhand shot, and had two steals. In net,
Owain Llewellyn had nine saves and four steals. Waechter led the team in scores with three. Brady scored twice with four steals.
La Salle was downed by Salem International on Sunday to finish fourth in the conference. Daniel Domotar was named first-team all-tournament while Brady was named to the second team.
