Volleyball Grinds Out Five Set Victory Over Davidson on Senior Day

PHILADELPHIA- The La Salle volleyball team captured a win over conference rival Davidson on Sunday at Tom Gola Arena in a five set thriller on senior day. Set scores of (23-25, 25-17, 23-25, 25-20, 15-13) pushed La Salle past the Wildcats for the second time this season to improve the teams record to 14-15 overall and 4-9 in league play.

The Wildcats picked up an edge when they captured the first set by a slim two points as the two teams traded the lead three times. La Salle came roaring back in the second set, jumping out to a 10-3 advantage thanks to three consecutive kills from Madison Kuch. La Salle never let up their lead, holding on as they finished the set 25-17 on another kill from Kuch and one from Bryanna Davis to equalize the match.

Again, the two teams traded points throughout the third set until the Wildcats capitalized on a pair of La Salle fumbles to take the third set for a 2-1 edge. The fourth set saw four lead changes as the Explorers climbed to a 14-11 advantage to force Davidson to a time out. The 'Cats came within striking distance at 21-19, but La Salle used a pair of Kuch kills to bring themselves to a five point lead to force the match into a tiebreaker set for the eleventh time this season.

A .409 percentage in the final set gave La Salle the edge it needed to lift themselves over the Wildcats for the win. A trio of kills from Davis in the second half of the set secured the slim margin La Salle needed to take the victory, winning the match on an error from Davidson.

A pair of Explorers paced La Salle in the attack, with Bryanna Davis leading the way with a match-high 23 kills and Kuch chipping in 21. Reilly Lowe and Catherine Edgington turned in eight apiece as La Salle totaled 70 kills against Davidson's 66.

The Explorers totaled a spectacular 10 service aces as a team, with Jenny Edwards accounting for four and Hannah McGary posting three. Kathryn Wood registered 54 assists to lead La Salle to 88 points on the day.

Reilly Lowe had a career match, posting two solo blocks for a career-best five total blocks. Wood and Edgington also attended the block party, each posting three apiece on the day.

Three Explorers saw double-digit digs, with Jensen Sharrits recording 30 and Samantha Graver posting 20. Wood amassed 16 on the day for a double-double performance.

A trio of seniors in David, McGary and Rachel Carr were honored for their four years of dedication to the volleyball program in a brief ceremony with their families before the game. La Salle will play their final match of the regular season on Friday, Nov. 10 at Tom Gola, welcoming Duquesne for a 7:00 p.m. matchup in North Philadelphia.
