PHILADELPHIA - The La Salle University men's rowing team rounded out its fall season this past weekend with two different events. On Saturday, the Explorers took part in the Head of the Occoquan River in Fairfax Station, Virginia, before closing out the stretch with races against Bucknell and Penn State on Sunday.

The weekend was highlighted by outstanding performances from newcomers. On Saturday, two La Salle eight boats finished third and fourth, behind two groups from Georgetown. The Explorers bettered teams from Duke, Maryland and Pittsburgh, and continued momentum into Sunday.

Going up against Penn State and Bucknell, the top novice boat crossed in a time of 6:31.1 to defeat the Bison's No. 1 group by over eight seconds. The second boat for the Explorers crossed third, ahead of Bucknell's second team, with both La Salle eights defeating Penn State. Additionally, the two men's novice 4+ boats finished first and third.

In varsity eight competition, the two Explorer teams finished the Head of the Occoquan River in seventh and 16th place, respectively. The 'A' boat for La Salle had an impressive row on Sunday, finishing second behind Bucknell in a time of 6:28.8. In  varsity four action, the one La Salle boat at the Head of the Occoquan closed in 24th position and was fourth out of five boats the following day.
