DENTON, Texas – The La Salle women's basketball team (4-6) couldn't overcome an early deficit at North Texas (7-2) in a 70-44 loss to the Mean Green on Saturday afternoon at The Super Pit.
Amy Griffin had a team-high 12 points for the Explorers while
Shalina Miller added eight. Griffin and Miller each grabbed a game-high seven rebounds.
The Mean Green started the game on a 19-2 run and never relinquished their lead. The Explorers ended the quarter on a 9-1 run but UNT pushed the lead back to double digits with seven straight points to start the 2
nd quarter.
Ashanti Freeland had a season-high seven points to go with five rebounds while
Sofilia Ngwafang had six points and six boards. Freshman
Deja King added seven points in 31 minutes off the bench, missing her season-high by a point.
Lauren Holmes led all scorers with 17 points and added five rebounds for the Mean Green. Brittany Smith and Micayla Buckner also finished in double figures with 11 and 10 points, respectively.
The Explorers are off this week for final exams and return to action at Delaware State on December 17.
