GREENVILLE, N.C. - The La Salle baseball team (0-5) was defeated in the first of a three-game series at East Carolina University (2-3) earlier today. Despite a mid-game charge, the Explorers fell 7-3.
Starting pitcher
Luke Reilly continued the momentum from his first appearance of the season that earned him Big 5 Pitcher of the Week honors, throwing 6.2 innings and allowing just three earned runs. He struck out three in the process.
The La Salle offense impressed with ten total hits from eight batters.
Ben Faso and
Austin Constantini each enjoyed multi-hit games.
In the third inning, the Explorers found themselves trailing by two when Kevin McGowen singled up the middle to score Constantini and
Yan Carlo Rivera and tie the game. In the next inning,
Brian Tagoe scored on a wild pitch to give La Salle the 3-2 advantage.
Despite consistent hitting from the Explorers, the ECU pitchers kept them from crossing the plate for the remainder of the game.
Head Coach
Mike Lake and La Salle will face the Pirates again tomorrow in the second game of the series. The first pitch is set for 2:00 PM. Live stats and stream will be made available through GoExplorers.com.
