PHILADELPHIA-
Allee Ilgenfritz netted a team-high four goals but it was not enough as the Explorers were topped 15-12 by Sacred Heart on Saturday at McCarthy Stadium in the second game of the season. La Salle is now 1-1 overall in the 2017 campaign.
The Explorers got off to an early 6-2 lead with three goals from
Brittany Edwards and two from Ilgenfritz, while
Rachel Ceplo added another to get the first half off to a strong start.
La Salle led by as much as four at halftime but the Pioneers push back to take the game with six straight goals in the second half to gain a 13-10 advantage.
A pair of goals at 8:51 and 5:58 from
Courtney Woolford, her second off an assist from
Nicole Black, allowed the Explorers to close the gap to 13-12 but it was not enough as the clock ran down.
Freshman
Mikki Raymond scored her third and fourth career goals against the Pioneers while causing two turnovers and winning two draws. Edwards also grabbed two draws and added one assist to her three goals from four shots on the day.
Ilgenfritz and
Toni Massetti added an assist each for La Salle. Midfielder
Isabel Caddick picked up a team-high three ground balls, while
Alexis Henderson and Massetti picked up two apiece.
In goal,
Lynne Frankel posted 7 saves in her second game for the Explorers.
Lucy Loughlin added one save of her own in her first appearance of the season.
The Explorers will wrap up their three-game home stand when they meet Temple on Wednesday, March 1 at 7:00 PM at McCarthy Stadium.
