PHILADELPHIA – The La Salle women's basketball team mounted a strong rally in the 4
th quarter but couldn't complete the comeback in a 79-65 loss to the George Washington Colonials on Saturday afternoon at Tom Gola Arena.
Amy Griffin had a game-high 23 points while Sofi Ngwafang posted a career-high 18 points off the bench. Ngwafang was an effective 7-for-10 from the floor and grabbed three rebounds while Griffin matched a team-high with five boards.
La Salle (14-9, 7-4 A-10) used a 13-4 run midway through the 4
th to whittle a 13-point deficit to a 68-63 ballgame with 4:29 to play. The Colonials (15-8, 8-3 A-10) then answered with six straight points to push the lead back to double digits and put the game out of La Salle's reach.
Jasmine Alston came close to another double-double with 10 points and nine assists while grabbing five rebounds.
Micahya Owens also pulled down five rebounds and had five points and three assists.
Anemone Scheel knocked down a three-pointer on her only shot attempt and went 2-for-2 from the line for five points in seven minutes off the bench.
Lexi Martins paced the Colonials with 22 points while Caira Washington had 21 points and seven rebounds. Hannah Schaible registered a 14-point, 10-rebound double-double.
La Salle is on the road for both games next week, starting with a Tuesday night matchup at St. Bonaventure before a Big 5 showdown at Saint Joseph's on Sunday.
