SPARTANBURG, S.C. - The La Salle baseball team (2-13) was defeated in the rubber match of a three-game series at USC Upstate (8-9) on Friday afternoon, 6-3.
The Explorers never led in the game, trailing 2-0 after four innings.
Kevin McGowan's sac fly and
Ben Faso's RBI single each scored a run in the sixth inning, tying the game at two before USC Upstate took a decisive lead in the latter half of the frame. The Blue and Gold scored its third run of the game in the ninth when
Brett Simon's ground out scored
Brian Tagoe.
Rafael Amanau went 3-for-4 with three singles and a run scored. Tagoe had two hits himself, including a triple - the team's only extra base hit.
On the mound,
Mike Anthony lasted five innings, striking out six. He gave up just two earned runs in the outing.
The Explorers wrap up the road trip with a game at Wofford on Saturday at 2:00 PM.
