BETHLEHEM - The La Salle Baseball team secured a victory Wednesday afternoon in a non-conference road game at Lehigh, 2-1. The game marked the first round of the Liberty Classic. The Explorers will now play Delaware in the semifinal on Hank DeVincent Field on April 4.
Matt Holt drew the start for La Salle and finished his 4.2 innings having surrendered just one run. He struck out three and allowed six hits in the process.
Relief pitcher
Jorge Jimenez (1-1) pitched 2.1 scoreless innings and earned the win. He entered the fifth, inheriting two runners on base but got La Salle out of trouble by quickly ending the inning with a fly ball. He then punched out four batters over the next two innings.
Austin Constantini contributed two more scoreless innings to close the game out and earn his first save of the season.
It was Constantini who also scored the first run of the game in the top of the first when
Ben Faso drove him in on a sac fly. Faso finished 1-for-3 and extended his hit streak to five games.
The Explorers scored again in the fourth when
Ryan Guckin singled up through the right side to score Faso with the bases loaded. That run would turn out to be the decisive one.
La Salle will take a day off before traveling to Fordham for a three-game series beginning on Friday at 3:00 PM.
