BETHLEHEM -
Ben Faso hit a grand slam in the first inning but the Explorers couldn't hang on in a 13-4 loss on the road to Lehigh on Tuesday.
The first four batters of the afternoon reached base, the first two of which were each hit by a pitch.
Rafael Amanau and
Ryan Guckin took an HBP to get on base. They both advanced when
Kevin McGowan was given the third free pass in as many batters, chasing Lehigh's starting pitcher just three at bats into the game.
Two pitches later,
Ben Faso sent the ball over the fence in right center for a grand slam.
The hit was just one of five on the day for La Salle. Lehigh quickly found its groove on the mound after replacing its starter.
La Salle starting pitcher
Matt Holt, who won the Big 5 Pitcher of the Week and Atlantic 10 Rookie of the Week honors last week, went four innings and struck out three.
The Explorers will travel to take on Miami (Ohio) this weekend beginning on Friday at 3:00 PM.
