La Salle Drops Two in Saturday DH with Dayton

PHILADELPHIA – The Dayton Flyers (23-18, 10-4) took both games of a doubleheader with La Salle (14-19, 4-8) on Saturday afternoon at West Campus Field.
 
Dayton 5, La Salle 0
The Flyers took a 2-0 lead over the first two innings against La Salle starter Reilly Gearhart (L, 3-8), getting on the board with a Katie Ryan RBI single in the 1st and an RBI single from Kelly Fitzgerald in the 2nd.
 
La Salle loaded the bases with two outs in the 1st but UD starter Gabrielle Snyder (W, 6-4) wiggled out of trouble without any damage. Emma Schweigert recorded the only hit for the Explorers with a single to right in the 4th.
 
Dayton 12, La Salle 3
UD scored eight runs over the first three innings, including three in the top of the 1st to take an early lead. La Salle answered in the home half of the opening frame with a Suzanne Swanicke RBI single.
 
Emma Schweigert had a sac fly in the 3rd to cut the UD lead to 8-3 and Lauren Morell added an RBI single in the 6th to make it a 10-3 game after Dayton scored a run in the 5th and 6th innings.
 
Marlo Roadcap (L, 7-8) made the start for the Blue and Gold but was charged with four runs before exiting with a runner on and no outs in the 2nd.  McKenzie Peace then entered and was charged with two runs before being lifted with two outs in the 2nd.
 
Reilly Gearhart got the final out in the 2nd and pitched into the 7th, allowing six runs (two earned) on six hits and two walks.  
 
The Explorers continue their home stand this week as they host the Drexel Dragons on Wednesday for a doubleheader at West Campus Field. Game one is set for 2 PM.
