Lacrosse Tripped Up by Richmond

PHILADELPHIA- Despite an early back-and-forth game in the first thirty minutes, the La Salle lacrosse team was undone by Richmond on Sunday, April 2 in an 18-8 contest at McCarthy Stadium.

Rookie Abby Squires put La Salle on the board first to tally her second career goal at five minutes into play, but Richmond was quick to answer just over a minute later give the Spiders' their first points of the day. The Explorers then battled out to a 4-4 tie in the first stanza before the Spiders netted three consecutive goals to secure a lead going into the second half.

Richmond never wavered in their lead, despite a team high three goals from Allee Ilgenfritz, including a shot from behind the back to send the ball past goal keeper Megan Gianforte. Squires added another goal while Brittany Edwards added two and Rachel Ceplo tallied her fourth goal of the season to add to La Salle's effort.

Toni Massetti tallied two assists and Ilgenfritz added one in the battle against the Spiders.

Anna Gordon won three draws to lead La Salle, while Courtney Shoults caused two turnovers to aide in the defensive efforts. Shoults also led La Salle when she scooped up three ground balls. Isabel Caddick matched Shoults when she grabbed her own three loose balls on the day.

Ashley Blanton, Courtney Woolford and Ceplo picked up two ground balls apiece in La Salle's 17 total.

Lynne Frankel recorded six saves in her 44:43 minutes in the net.

La Salle will continue the four game home stand when the team welcomes VCU on Friday, April 7 with draw slated for 7:00 PM.
